This year has been a very successful one in assisting all three areas (youth, adult and dislocated workers) in education, training and job preparation. This past year LWDA-11 served a total of 1,185 adults. This included 279 throughout the Incumbent Worker Program. The Dislocated Worker Program served a total of 670 participants this program year. We also served 269 youth in the in-school and out- of-school programs.
In January of 2004, six states including Tennessee formed the Career Readiness Certificate (CRC) consortium. This consortium was created due to a serious need for a portable skills credential based on a common language that could be easily un- derstood by employers, educators, and citizens. LWDA-11 was selected to participate with local areas 2 and 10 in Tennessee in the Employability Credential Pilot utilizing the National Career Readiness Certificate. Since the program’s inception, LWDA-11 has issued a total of 3,283 NCRC’s.
Here at LWDA-11 we take pride in helping others achieve their career goals. Our Career Specialists work extensively with participants in order to put them in the best position to succeed. This success story comes from the hard work of Mrs. Roamell Bostick, a Career Specialist in Chester County. Mrs. Bostick helped a participant graduate nursing school by helping her in any way that she could. Here is an excerpt from a thank you letter sent from the participant:
“Your support and belief has paid off because I graduated from Jackson State Community College in May 2012 as a RN Nursing graduate. I’m now scheduled to take my State Boards of Licensing in June… I will never forget WIOA and especially you Mrs. Roamell for giving me the hope to reach for the stars! In honor of WIOA, I am helping another student achieve her dreams with donating my books, uniforms, and ect. to her”.
Success stories like these make everything that we do at LWDA-11 worthwhile. Thank you to Mrs. Roamell Bostick, and the rest of our hardworking Career Special- ists for all their continued hard work and dedication.
